We’re finalists! (I'm trying to act casual.)

Weka is a finalist in the Most Innovative Business category of The David Awards 2026. We looked at the cost of selling a house and thought, “Surely there’s an easier, cheaper way.” Then we did what lawyers do: checked the law. It turns out NZ lawyers have been able to sell real estate since 2006.

That little-used right became the basis for Weka. By bringing real estate sales into an existing legal practice, we can handle the sale and the legal work together, with fewer handovers, a simpler process and a lower cost for sellers.

The award recognises small businesses finding new ways to do things. We’re delighted to be in the running—although I am keeping my expectations in check. My last prize was for Sixth Form Clothing and Textiles in 1990.

Thirty-six years is a respectable gap between trophies. Just saying.
